HONOLULU, HI- When battling cancer, transportation shouldn’t be another barrier to care. That’s why the American Cancer Society Honolulu Hope Lodge in Honolulu and Turo are teaming up to keep patients moving forward through peer-to-peer carsharing.
The Honolulu Hope Lodge offers 20 private rooms where cancer patients and their caregivers can find shelter and support during treatment. It’s a home away from home for patients, providing everything from food, transportation, and community. Turo’s $5,000 in travel credit and additional $2,500 check donation aid Hope Lodge’s transportation support for cancer patients to and from treatment.
“The American Cancer Society is the only organization combating cancer through advocacy, research, and patient support,” said Laura Creider, Executive Director at the American Cancer Society in Hawaiʻi. “The support provided by Turo aids the work in overcoming barriers to cancer quality care as we focus our work in ensuring everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.”
During an April 28th tour of the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Honolulu received Turo’s donation, presented by Leonani Puailihau, Turo’s Senior Community Relations Manager.
“Touring the Hope Lodge was a stark reminder that transportation isn’t just about getting from place to place, it’s about restoring dignity, uplifting spirit, and offering peace during challenging times,” said Puailihau. “We’re amazed at all the incredible work that the American Cancer Society does for patients seeking treatment, and we’re grateful for a pono partnership that can help make the difficult path to remission a little bit smoother.”
The tour, attended by Turo’s Senior Government Relations Manager, Davin Aoyagi, and several state policy leaders, including Representative Cory Chun, Representative Darius Kila, Representative Rachele Lamosao, and Representative Mahina Poe Poe, marked a partnership that has the power to evolve and transform how patients overcome barriers to cancer care.
The partnership with Turo is one of many innovative steps the American Cancer Society is taking toward its mission of improving the lives of cancer patients. If you’d like to help drive the road to remission, donate to cancer care and research by clicking here.
