Help support Turo in Alaska

Right now, the Alaska state legislature is considering how to tax peer-to-peer car sharing trips. While traditional rental car companies enjoy loopholes on local sales taxes and breaks on vehicle registration fees across the state, Alaska Turo hosts pay sales tax on the purchase of their vehicles, where applicable, in addition to registration fees. These unfair financial carveouts for Big Rental should be taken into consideration when determining the tax rates for peer-to-peer car sharing transactions.

We’re working hard to educate the Alaska state legislature about the benefits of peer-to-peer car sharing and urge them to move forward with sensible tax policy — but we need your help!

Community stories from people like you have been crucial in our efforts to impact policy across the country. Please share your unique story with members of the Alaska state legislature — it would go a long way in protecting your right to share and book cars without burdensome taxes, and help ensure back taxes aren’t owed by hosts once a tax rate is enacted in law.
