Help stop a triple tax in Texas
Right now, the Texas legislature is considering a set of bills, SB 1498 and HB 4602, that would negatively impact your ability to share or book cars in the Lone Star State by adding new taxes to Turo trips, adding up to a triple tax for Turo community members.
SB 1498 and HB 4602, backed by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, aim to add the local stadium tax and gross rental receipts tax on peer-to-peer car sharing trips, without taking into account the taxes Turo hosts pay on the purchase of their vehicles. Turo hosts pay their fair share while companies like Enterprise enjoy a $430+ million sales tax loophole in Texas — each year. This is unfair to our Turo community members and it’s unfair for Texans across the state.
We’re working hard to educate the Texas House of Representatives and State Senate about the benefits of peer-to-peer car sharing for their constituencies — but we need your help!
Community stories from people like you have been crucial in our efforts to stave off unfair policy in states across the country. Please share your unique story with members of the Texas legislature — it would go a long way in protecting your right to share and book cars, and stopping these types of attacks on peer-to-peer car sharing.
